From Trauma to Transformation: My Journey to Somatic Healing

Updated: Dec 6, 2024

My Journey Into Healing

For over 15 years, I’ve dedicated my life to serving marginalized communities, particularly families and children. From affordable summer programs and safe community after-school activities to empowering girls through leadership programs, I have always been passionate about supporting those who need it most. As an educator and parent liaison, I worked tirelessly to ensure families had the resources they needed, including advocacy for parents navigating special education challenges.

My journey into trauma-informed work began when I took on the role of Director of Training for a youth and family trauma-informed agency. Ensuring all staff were equipped to support those affected by trauma required me to deeply understand how trauma impacts the family system and each individual's mind and body. This experience solidified my commitment to holistic family healing.

Healing Through Somatic Practices

Two years ago, I faced a deeply personal crisis when my 24-year marriage ended traumatically. To navigate this difficult period, I turned to both spiritual counseling within my Christian faith and somatic therapy. My religious counseling offered spiritual strength and guidance, serving as an anchor during a time of immense turmoil. Meanwhile, somatic therapy provided an avenue to deeply explore and release how trauma was held within my body.

Through somatic work, I uncovered areas of long-held burdens, unresolved childhood trauma, and layers of inner self-criticism that had been lying dormant. While the end of my marriage was a significant event, it was a doorway to recognizing the deeper emotional wounds that needed healing. This work allowed me to release the pain I had carried for years and cultivate genuine self-love and compassion.

This holistic journey integrating spiritual support and somatic healing transformed my life. Inspired by this profound healing, I felt called to explore somatic practices more deeply and integrate them into my work, especially within the context of serving women of color, whose ancestral and generational experiences often shape their well-being.

The Birth of Sacral Soulmatic

This holistic approach, uniting spiritual and somatic practices, became a transformative turning point. Like many practitioners, my healing journey inspired me to explore somatic methods more deeply and integrate them with my commitment to serving others. Encouraged by a somatic practitioner, I began to blend these practices with my trauma-focused background, shaped by my experiences as a woman of color and informed by the unique ancestral and generational wounds we often carry. This is how Sacral Soulmatic Support was born.

A Personalized Approach to Wellness

I became a certified trauma-informed somatic coach and further expanded my professional development with certifications in meditation, brain-spotting, and somatic yoga. I also trained as a birthing doula to better support women through all phases of their journey.

My practice includes deep inner child and parts work, drawing on extensive learning and hands-on methods to help clients connect with and heal different aspects of themselves. This holistic approach honors each person’s unique story, fostering transformative healing, self-awareness, and the release of past traumas held within the body.

I am deeply attuned to the unique challenges that women of color face, particularly during the perinatal period, from pregnancy through three years postpartum. As a mother of three, I understand firsthand how motherhood can transform every part of a woman’s life, often challenging our well-being amidst societal and generational pressures that do not serve us as divine individuals.

Healing is deeply personal and must be tailored to each individual’s needs. My work is about creating a space where women are heard, honored, and supported as they release pain, balance energies, and reclaim their true selves. Together, we explore the inner woman's desires, applying evidence-based principles, self-discovery practices, and compassionate care.
